Friday evening we will meet at our property in South Bay where we begin with the basics on land; ensuring each participant understands the equipment needed, planning for paddling, risk management, and weather. Saturday we will hit the water and focus on our kayaking skills: boat handling, launching, landing, and balancing. One of the big emphasis of this course is learning how to paddle with efficiency to maximize the energy we put into our strokes and minimize risk of injury. Once comfortable in the kayak we will learn how to safely exit our kayaks in the event of a capsize, and multiple ways to re-enter our kayaks after a capsize. Be prepared to have a lot of FUN learning with others in our group! The small instructor to student ratio (1:5) ensures a safe and encouraging environment where you will get plenty of positive feedback and individual coaching. Our aim is for you to leave feeling confident with the knowledge and skills to get out paddling! We will meet at 6:00 pm on Friday, May 30th at our South Bay property, finishing up at 9:00 pm. The following day we will meet at the Woodard Bay boat launch at 9:00 am and finish up by 5:00pm All of the kayaks and paddling gear will be provided for you.
